Attention MD Business Clients- the following emailed notice was sent from Maryland Department of Commerce
Dear Maryland Small Business COVID-19 Relief Applicant:
Thank you for your patience during this difficult time. We have received several inquiries about status updates and available funding, and we want to provide all the information we have available at this time.
We are writing today to confirm that your grant application has passed our review and approval process, and that you will receive final documents if you have not already received them. Once these documents are signed and returned to us, the State of Maryland can issue you a check for your grant.
Please note that the mailing address in the documents you will receive must be the same as the mailing address provided in your application. Changing the mailing address will delay, and may even jeopardize, your grant payment.
We understand that this has been a long and frustrating process, and that some applicants have already received notification of preliminary approval while others are getting this message for the first time. We apologize for the wait, and for any confusion that resulted.
While those preliminary approval notifications may not have reflected the order in which applications were received, funds are still being distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning with those who applied on March 23, the day we launched our relief programs. We expect that the applications we received on March 23 and March 24 will utilize nearly all of the $50 million allocated to the Maryland Small Business COVID-19 Emergency Grant program.
We apologize for the amount of time this has taken, but please know we received more than 5,000 applications in the first two days of the program and nearly 30,000 grant and loan applications in total. We recruited numerous state employees from our sister agencies to meet this tremendous demand, and provided hours of training to make this a faster, more efficient process. We are working diligently to help as many businesses as we can.
If you have not already received approval documents, you should soon be receiving them via email.
Thank you again,
Maryland Department of Commerce
